New Kid-Friendly Café Set To Open In Halifax Area
HALIFAX — A group of entrepreneurs hope to enliven downtown Sackville with a new café catering to parents, gamers, and anyone who wants a “comfortable” place to sit and enjoy a coffee and some grub.
Press Play Café is slated to open in Lower Sackville next month. Featuring a play area for kids and an “epic game library,” the café aims to be an easy place for both parents to take their kids and board game enthusiasts to gather for gaming.
Kelly Webster is one of the entrepreneurs behind the new business and the chief operating officer at Press Play Café.
Webster — who has three kids, all younger than four—says the idea to create a space where parents could take their kids without having to worry started mostly with “kitchen table talks.”
“Our partners have a few different interests in the café. I personally am a stay-at-home mom and I have kids and I can’t take them anywhere because they’re crazy,” she said with a chuckle. “I just wanted to have a place where I can feel comfortable to bring my kids and I’m not necessarily worried about how they’re acting all the time.”
“Really, it was just a lot of us saying we really wish we had somewhere to go [in Sackville], so why not create it?”
To give weary parents a place for some respite (and maybe a coffee and snack), Press Play will feature a 1,000-square-foot play space that Webster says will allow parents to monitor their kids.
But Webster insists the café won’t just be for parents and their progeny. It will also be stocked with a selection of video games, a board game library, and other entertainment for patrons of all ages. The space will also feature a conference room available for rent.
She said the menu will consist of coffee, treats, some light sandwiches and soup, as well as a selection of appetizers.
At the end of the day, she said, she and her partners are just trying to be a “friendly face in the community.”
“We just really wanted to bring something to the community of Sackville where people could feel comfortable and enjoy coming and bring some fun to the area,” she said.
Press Play Café is located on Sackville Drive, and Webster says she and her partners are aiming to open by mid-September.
