Moncton Area Walmarts Introduce Online Grocery Shopping, Pick Up
MONCTON – Walmart shoppers in Moncton and Dieppe can now order groceries online through a mobile app and pick them up at the store, the company announced Tuesday.
The new Moncton-area service is part of a national roll-out at 22 stores in Regina, Halifax, Moncton, Victoria and Quebec City.
“Walmart is always looking for innovative approaches to help our customers save time and money and we’re constantly trying new things,” said Lee Tappenden, president and CEO of Walmart Canada, in a release.
“We’re thrilled to offer the Mobile Check-in technology to customers, potentially shaving valuable minutes off their online grocery pickup experience.”
The new Mobile Check-in app allows customers to check in 30 minutes before their scheduled grocery pickup time. When the customer is close to the store, a Walmart employee will be alerted and the order will be ready when they arrive.
Customers in areas that have the online and pickup service can also order groceries through the company website.
The company plans to expand the mobile check-in feature to all Walmart Canada grocery pickup store locations sometime next year.
It also plans to introduce “Pickup Towers” to the Canadian market in early 2019 with two test locations in Oakville, Ontario and Mississauga, Ontario. The towers are high-tech, 16-foot-tall units, capable of dispensing a customer’s online, general merchandise order in less than a minute.
