Greater Shediac to Hold First Job Fair
SHEDIAC – The first Greater Shediac Job Fair, hosted by the Chambre de commerce du Grand Shediac/Greater Shediac Chamber of Commerce and Centre-Ville Shediac Downtown inc., is in the works for early next month.
The job fair will take place April 5 and 6 at the Shediac Multipurpose Centre. The first day of the job fair will focus on the natural resources, fabrication, manufacturing and processing sectors while the second day will be oriented more toward jobs in customer service, tourism and retail sales.
In a release, president of the Greater Shediac Chamber of Commerce Ron Cormier said local employers often have trouble filling available positions.
“Every time we meet with businesses, they say the same thing: they have trouble recruiting qualified workers,” Cormier said. “That’s why we and our various partners are organizing the first job fair at the request of, and to support, employers. There are over 100 job openings in the region and we are sure employers will be able to find the workers they need here.”
Coordinator of the Southeast New Brunswick Education and Industry Council and job fair organizer Keri Albert says a number of employers have already signed up and are ready to hold interviews at the event.
“We encourage the public to attend in large numbers,” Albert said in a release. “It’s an excellent time of year to work near the shore.”
Employer registration for the fair costs $100 for one day or $150 for both days for members of the Greater Shediac Chamber of Commerce. Fees as $200 for one day or $300 for both days for non-members.
