The CAP To Bring Fredericton Tannery To Life With Thursday Night Market
FREDERICTON–The Capital Complex in downtown Fredericton is adding another night market to the city.
Georgia Priestley-Brown, the events coordinator for the Tannery space, said The CAP’s Recap Market will be an extension of the current Thursday Garrison Night Market.
“Seeing as restrictions are lifted, we want to celebrate and bring the community downtown as much as possible,” said Priestley-Brown. “Also, to help our food and beverage and local businesses thrive.”
The market is located in the Fredericton Tannery space that sits in the open area between The CAP, Dolan’s Pub, and the rest of the local businesses situated in the area. It will operate from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Thursdays.
The market will focus on vintage, thrift, new, and used sellers. It will also offer live music, whether that be a band or a DJ. The Tannery space has picnic tables for marketgoers to bring their own food, or snack on something from a downtown restaurant.
The market has space for 10 vendors at a time, plus a band.
The Recap market operates in collaboration with Downtown Fredericton Inc. and Fredericton Tourism.
“We wanted to highlight [the Garrison Night Market] as well but that’s why we’re focusing on vintage and thrift–because the night market focuses a lot on creators and so we just wanted to offer something a little bit different,” said Priestley-Brown.
She said the CAP’s market won’t have the same vendors every week. She’s even received a few vendor applications from people in Saint John and Moncton who are interested in coming up to Fredericton for the evening.
Some of the vendors for this Thursday are Floko Kombucha, Consciously Clean Refillery, and Bellwether Consignment.
“What’s nice, too, is we have a few businesses that have storefronts here in Fredericton but they also want to join part of the market,” said Priestley-Brown.
One of the market vendors who already have a store location is Bellwether Consignment, which is located at 384 Queen St. Laurel Green, Bellwether’s owner, said her consignment shop sells vintage clothing and accessories. It also curates a selection of eclectic, local, independently made art and homeware.
“We’re really excited about being a part of the Recap market for a little bit of exposure,” said Green.
Her store is located on the second floor of a building and is a little bit of a “hole-in-the-wall.” She hopes attending the Recap market will give her exposure and bring more people into her shop.
With that, Green said she’s looking forward to seeing some new people, since the market is a more accessible public outdoor space.
“We are a very community-oriented shop. Our focus is retail but being a community support and pillars is part of our mission,” said Green.
She plans for Bellwether to be there multiple Thursdays throughout the summer. While she hasn’t completed her summer schedule yet she’s hoping to attend the Recap market on alternating Thursdays.
Green said each week spent at the market she plans to have a clothing rack of exclusively new vintage items that haven’t been featured in the shop yet.
“It will be kind of like they will make their first appearance on our Bellwether racks at the market, so that’ll be like exclusive little weekly drops anytime that we’re there,” said Green.
She said they will also have trunks full of bargain vintage items, as well as accessories and a selection of local and independent artwork. She said she wants the market stand to be like a mini collection of what’s available at storefront location.
Priestley-Brown said the weekly lineup for vendors will be posted on The CAP’s social media channels, as well as a new social media channel called the Tannery Series, which offers all the information Frederictonians need about the happenings in the Tannery space.
The Recap market will also sell a variety of The CAP’s record store merch and some other hidden treasures that are normally sold in the store.
“The reason I love Fredericton is that the community here is so strong,” said Priestley-Brown. “It is really supportive, and everybody here wants to see everybody else succeed which I find is very special and unique.”
Priestley-Brown said she knows the Recap market will already be a success due to the success of the Garrison Night Market. She said the city of Fredericton wants to support sellers and unique ideas.
“I want to be able to create events where people can gather and just share in laughter and enjoy in community,” said Priestley-Brown.
