Times And Transcript Ends Monday Paper Deliveries
MONCTON – The Ontario-based owner of most of New Brunswick’s English-language newspapers has halted Monday delivery of its daily newspaper in Moncton.
In the May 16 online edition of the Times & Transcript, Brunswick News. Inc. (BNI) announced physical copies would no longer be delivered on Mondays.
The decision comes about three months after J.D. Irving, the former owner of BNI, sold the media company for $7.5-million to Postmedia.
Through the purchase, the Toronto-based media giant purchased nine newspapers, including the province’s English-speaking dailies, the Times & Transcript, the Fredericton-based Daily Gleaner, and the Telegraph-Journal in Saint John–as well as six weeklies.
The Times & Transcript’s announcement attributed the decision to cancel Monday paper deliveries to rising delivery costs–specifically, fuel prices making deliveries more expensive.
This move is similar to Postmedia’s 2017 decision to stop printing a Monday edition of its flagship publication the National Post, citing similar financial concerns.
“Moving forward, you will continue to receive your paper from Tuesday to Saturday,” the announcement said, noting that physical copies of the paper would continue to be delivered from Tuesday to Saturday.
In the same announcement, BNI stated that customers will receive access to the National Post’s digital edition.
“This is part of our aim to add more value to your subscription by working with our media partners from across the country,” said the announcement.
