Greater Moncton Loses Only LGBTQ+ Bar
MONCTON–The only catering specifically to the LGBTQ+ community in the Greater Moncton area has closed its doors.
In a recent social media post, the owner of Pink Flamingos Lounge says the pandemic has caused great strain for the business over the last two years.
Owners say the bar couldn’t keep up with all of the restrictions put in place to keep patrons safe.
“For almost two years, with the pandemic, having to open and close several times, caused such a strain on the business and also our mental health. We are unable to keep up with all the restrictions put in place for all of our clients’ safety,” the Facebook post announcing the closure reads.
“Covid-19 has affected many small businesses and we are very proud that we made it this far into the pandemic. Closing the doors to Pink saddens us greatly, but we just have to accept it. Hopefully in the future some other person will create another space like this for the community and we will help in any way possible. It’s just time to pass the torch,” the post continues.
Pink Flamingos Lounge opened three years ago, in the same St. George Street location as Triangles, another bar that had served the LGBTQ+ community for many years.
