N.B. Nurses Union Members Vote 92 Percent In Favour Of Strike
SAINT JOHN–New Brunswick Nurses Union members have voted 92 percent in favour of a strike.
The union announced the details of last week’s strike vote in a news release late Monday afternoon.
The Nursing Home bargaining group voted 89 percent in favour, Part III Nurses voted 91 percent in favour, and Nurse Managers and Supervisors voted 96 percent in favour.
“NBNU members have made their voices heard loud and clear,” said President Paula Doucet, in a news release.
“I hope that this strong strike mandate sends a powerful message to government about the issues that have plagued our profession for years. Nurses in New Brunswick are tired and fed up. With a combined 92 percent favourable strike vote, their demand for respect and better healthcare for all is more evident than ever. Our current system is broken, it has been for years. It’s time to fix it,” continued Doucet.
Negotiating teams will be back at the bargaining table on Tuesday.
Once they are, the union said a media blackout will be put in place to keep details confidential.
