Moosehead Breweries Announces Small-Batch Brewery General Manager
SAINT JOHN – Moosehead Breweries has appointed the first general manager of its new small-batch brewery, which will open soon in the port city.
On Tuesday the company announced that long-time employee Karen Cousins will be taking on the position.
The appointment is the next step in the year-long project, which is a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Oland family brewing business – a milestone the company will hit in 2017.
“Karen has been a valuable member of the Moosehead team for sixteen years,” said Andrew Oland, Moosehead president and CEO, in a release. “Her journey through the company has exposed her to virtually every aspect of our business, including brewing, packaging, human resources, operations, marketing and sales – giving her the kind of cross-functional skill set this new role requires.”
The company says Cousins will be joining a “growing number of women” taking leadership roles at North American breweries.
“Karen has spent the past five years as our Director of Beer Appreciation,” said Patrick Parent, Moosehead vice president of operations and human resources. “Her passion for beer is evident to everyone who meets her. We are confident she will take this opportunity and run with it, bringing our products and our passion for beer making to our consumers in new and exciting ways.”
Moosehead says Cousins is currently working with architects, developers and realtors to secure a location for the new brewery.
“There is a lot of interest in the location of the new brewery,” said Cousins, in a release. “We anticipate a decision in the near future, and we’ll share it as soon as we can. We are really thrilled at the amount of excitement there is for this project, and thank everyone for their support.”
