NB365: Sarah Henderson Of Soapstone Editing In St. Stephen
This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today, we hear from Sarah Henderson of Soapstone Editing in St. Stephen.
I’ve always been drawn to detail-oriented, focused work. After working for my alma mater, St. Stephen’s University, for several years in a variety of capacities, I realized editing was one of my favourite parts of my job and that I could pursue an editing certificate.
Today, I am a certified editor and the owner of Soapstone Editing. I provide editing and proofreading services for non-fiction, business, and academic writers. I get immense satisfaction from my work, which includes offering guidance on everything from a manuscript’s overall structure to its punctuation and grammar. The reward comes when I get to see my clients share their work with confidence.
Over the next few months, you’ll find me studying the Canadian Press Stylebook between projects. I’ll also enroll in a course that’ll help prepare me to edit entomology-related manuscripts, as I’ve developed a personal fascination with insects.
Over the past several years, St. Stephen has developed a strong web of support among business owners and beyond, and I’m excited to have become a part of that. I worked out of the King Street Creative Building’s creative co-working space this summer and witnessed collaboration in action.
I’ve learned that strong communities foster strong businesses and vice versa. Supporting local businesses has a real impact because it creates and sustains a sense of positive momentum within a community. When we spend locally, whether as individuals or as businesses, the community benefits.
