The Hart Department Store Chain Is Opening in Fredericton’s Brookside Mall
FREDERICTON – The Brookside Mall on the North Side finally has a new anchor tenant for the old location of Zellers – the department store chain Hart.
“Hart is going to bring [a range of products] that we’ve needed for a little while,” said Krista Carr, marketing manager for Brookside Mall, in a phone interview with Huddle Tuesday morning.
“It’s got everything from clothing to home furnishings to home decor. It’s going to be great for the North Side and Fredericton as a whole.”
Hart was founded in 1960 by Harry Hart in Rosemère, Quebec, and now has 80 stores in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. It launched a full-scale online shopping platform in 2017.
The new Hart store will occupy a 25,000-square-foot space in Brookside Mall.
The mall had been without a large department store since Zellers closed several years ago, so Carr says Hart will fill a need in a growing residential area.
“There’s a lot of development in the area so it’s going to be [a good fit],” she said.
Carr says the store will open in October and join a mix of services and retail stores in Brookside that includes Sobeys, Lawtons, a liquor store, Goodlife Fitness, medical clinics, the Royal Bank, clothing stores, hairstyling services and restaurants.
“It’s a mixed-use mall so it will fit the mix quite well,” said Carr.
