N.B. Cybersecurity Company Selected to Pitch at International Event in Atlanta
FREDERICTON– Fredericton-based cybersecurity company Beauceron Security is one of 12 companies chosen for an invitation-only product pitch session during Cybercon 2017, an annual conference focused on the evolving issues affecting cybersecurity and the flagship event of Atlanta Cyber Week next month.
The session, sponsored by Baker Donelson, will have the 12 cybersecurity companies present their products directly to chief information security officers (CISOs) and other security professionals from southeastern U.S. companies and governments. After the presentations are completed, the presenting companies will have a private lunch with the CISOs.
Additional introductions will be made between presenting companies and CISOs who have shown an interest in a particular company’s product. The 12 companies are from Canada, the United States, Israel, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
“We once again have an outstanding group of both domestic and foreign cybersecurity companies participating in the Cybercon pitch session,” said Justin Daniels, a Baker Donelson shareholder, who is a co-chair of the Baker Donelson Cybersecurity Accelerator and is leading Atlanta Cyber Week, in a release.
“We look forward to the opportunity to connect these companies with leading professionals in the cybersecurity industry and to highlight Atlanta’s position as a global cybersecurity capital.”

Beauceron measures clients’ cybersecurity risks. The company recently announced that it received $500,000 in equity funding from private and public investors.
CEO David Shipley, who left his position as director of strategic initiatives and information technology services earlier in June at UNB, says the company was founded in the fall of 2015 as a new approach to cyber risk and cybersecurity at UNB.
At a launch event in late June, Shipley said Beauceron is the first of the initial companies part of the program to close a funding round and start full-time operations.
“It’s the first cybersecurity company to come from UNB staff since [Q1 Labs] about a decade ago and it’s already showing some really nice and promising early successes,” Shipley said.
“It’s about for us turning people and organizations and cultures from the source of the exploits. People think cybersecurity is about technology, part of the story. The bigger part is about people, so turning them from the sheep, the flock into the defenders of the organization, into the sheepdogs.”
In December 2016, Beauceron was accepted into the inaugural cohort of Energia Ventures, a UNB-based, startup accelerator in the J. Herbert Smith Technology Management and Entrepreneurship Centre (TME).
“Energia helps startup firms in energy, clean tech, smart grid and cybersecurity,” said Dhirendra Shukla, chair of TME and professor of engineering at UNB. “We help with initial funding, mentorship, refining plans and developing product solutions to prepare startups for further investment. Beauceron is the first of Energia’s initial cohort to close a first round of investment and we’re proud of the success they’ve seen so far.”
Cybercon 2017 takes place October 4 at Georgia Tech Global Learning Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
