Wreck Room in Dieppe is Breaking Into The New Brunswick Market
DIEPPE – The next time you’re stressed out, you can let off some steam by breaking a TV (or other things) at Wreck Room Entertainment in Dieppe.
David Vong, the manager and co-owner of the business, said the Wreck Room is based on similar facilities, often also called Rage Rooms, in larger cities in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The only one in Atlantic Canada is in Halifax.
“It’s basically a place where someone can come in and let off some steam,” Vong said.
Wreck Room provides protective gear, the room, the speakers for music preferred by the customer, and depending on the package customers choose, some “wreckables” as well.
“For example, they can get a TV, printers, glass,” Vong said. “They go into the room, there’s no time limit and they can just let it go. Just break stuff.”
The price ranges from $15 to $50, and customers can bring in their own “wreckables.” For now, Wreck Room is asking customers to bring their own footwear, but plans to provide that in the future.
Vong said he has been thinking about such a business since he was in high school but only found out recently that it’s a viable business.
“I thought why not just try it out and see how it goes because it’s something fun,” he said. “And it’s not only for stress relief. It’s also for entertainment. People can come with their friends, go in two at a time, record each other breaking stuff and laugh afterwards at the bar or something. It’s kind of a social event, too.”
Vong co-owns Wreck Room with his childhood friends Justin Richard and Jeremy Hebert. The facility, opened earlier in July, currently has three rooms with a capacity for two people each. It also serves snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
Vong wanted to bring something new to the Moncton region, serving people who want to have fun with friends and also those who want to spend time by themselves to release stress.
“I’m sure you have long days at work where you’re frustrated or pissed off, either your personal life or your professional life. Sometimes, you want to have a few minutes and be isolated with yourself, so you can go in the room and just do what you need to do, release your anger, release your inner beast if you want to,” he said.
The Wreck Room is located at 928 Champlain Street and is open every day from 1 PM to 10 PM. Walk-ins are welcome, but bookings would make things easier, Vong said.
