Unemployment Down Slightly in New Brunswick
FREDERICTON– Unemployment in New Brunswick was down in April according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada – though not by much.
The unemployment rate in the province was at 9.6 per cent in April, compared to 10.2 per cent in March.
In Moncton, unemployment went up to 7.2 per in April from 6.9 per cent in March. Saint John also saw a slight bump up to 8.4 per cent in April, compared to 8.3 per cent in March.
As for the rest of the Maritimes, Nova Scotia saw a drop to 8.3 per cent in April from 9.1 per cent in March. Newfoundland and Labrador also saw a decrease to 12.5 per cent in April from 13.1 per cent in March. Prince Edward Island saw unemployment rise to 11.5 per cent from 11.0 per cent.
Nationally, the unemployment rate remained steady at 7.1 per cent in April.
Statistics Canada cautions the figures may fluctuate widely because they are based on small statistical samples.
