Thirty Saint John Area Employers Seek Employees Through Online Job Fair
SAINT JOHN – Thirty Saint John area employers are taking part in an online fair for job seekers June 27.
People looking for work can access videos, and promotional material about the participating companies, and quickly scan all job postings.
The fair is interactive in nature. Job seekers can connect with employers via secure text chat. They can build a digital profile and easily share LinkedIn and digital copies of their resume with employers.
They’ll also be connected to employers and job postings by virtual guides who will network throughout the event to connect job vacancies to people with relevant skills and experience.

The participating employers come from various sectors of the economy, including information technology, customer contact centres, forestry, energy, social development and food services.
The province has been piloting virtual job fairs over the last several months, with the last one taking place in early April for ICT companies. They were inspired by a concept the province did years back for online career development fairs for high school students, says Steve Carle, program consultant for the Department of Post-secondary Education, Training and Labour for the province.
“We hadn’t explored that idea for a while until just recently with the situation that we’re in right now with a lot of opportunities and employers looking to hire people, and we have a shrinking workforce,” Carle told Huddle in a recent interview.
New Brunswick residents and newcomers who have a work visa or permanent residency status can take part in the fair by registering online. There is no cost to participate but people are required to register in advance of the event.
The fair is also open to more businesses that want to participate. It offers them the opportunity to connect with prospective employees quickly and easily and gives them access to the provincial government and regional economic development partners for information on the resources and supports available for employee recruitment and training.
The job fair is being organized by the provincial Department of Post-secondary Education, Training and Labour, Opportunities NB and Economic Development Greater Saint John (EDGSJ).
