N.B. Satirical Site is Releasing a Book of its Best and Most Popular Work
Since 2014, The Manatee has been publishing online satire of life in New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada.
Through their work over the last three years, the Manatee has shown that nobody, whether it be politicians, camouflage enthusiasts, powerful corporations and even Huddle, is above satire.
Now they’ve chosen their best and most popular stories to immortalize in print with a book called, The Manatee: Saving the Endangered Truth– A selection of stories for the discerning New Brunswicker.
“We wanted to have a physical, more permanent version of our stories out there, for people who don’t necessarily enjoy reading in front of a computer screen,” The Manatee’s Shauna Chase told Huddle. “Having a physical book lets us showcase in one tangible format the range of satirical writing we’ve built over the past few years. We wanted our contributors to be able to brag that they’ve been published, too.”

The book is illustrated by Saint John-based cartoonist Brandon Hicks and was made possible by a grant from the New Brunswick provincial government. They’re starting with an order of 100 books that will be sold this Wednesday in Fredericton at the Word Feast fair at the Fredericton Public Library from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. They will later announce a date to sell them in Saint John and Moncton. They also plan eventually bring the books to their online store.
