The Imperial Theatre has a New Executive Director
SAINT JOHN– Saint John’s historic Imperial Theatre has a new executive director.
Angela Campbell, who was previously the theatre’s assistant executive director, will be taking over the role from Lee Bolton, whose future plans have yet to be announced publicly.
Campbell has been working at the Imperial Theatre since 2004 when she first joined as the theatre’s director of development. She has extensive experience in programming, audience development
and theatre management. Cambell is also the current president of the Atlantic Presenters Association.
As executive director, Campbell says she plans to continue making the Imperial Theatre a leader in arts industry both regionally and nationally.
“Our core mission is going to remain the same. We are really about bringing a wide a variety of experiences for our community,” says Campbell. “Because we believe that living here, you should have access to the same cultural experiences you can have anywhere in the country. I don’t see that changing substantially.
For the last little while, the Imperial Theatre as been experimenting with different ways of bringing their events and performances beyond the stage and into the community. This includes events like after-show “kitchen parties” and professional workshops. Campbell says they plan to expand those partnerships.
“We are always going to be looking for new access points and new ways to engage with people and extend the experience past the stage and past the audience, creating fantastic opportunities when we have professional performers in our city,” Campbell says. “Taking them out into the community and deepening their connection with people who live here and providing training opportunities for people who are working or recreating in the cultural world. Expanding on that current mission is really where I see us moving.”
Campbell begins her new role July 1.
