Saint John common council has approved four contracts for the public space portion of the development.
Work will soon move to the pedway level with renovations continuing on the upper floors at 15 Market Square.
Saint John council has awarded another large tender as part of the overall Fundy Quay project. The latest tenderĀ is for site demolition work as part of the public space revitalization at Market Slip.
In total, five buildings are being proposed for the Fundy Quay site, ranging from six to 19 storeys.
The transformation is part of a $27-million investment to prepare the Fundy Quay site for development and renew some of the surrounding public space.
Construction work this summer will focus on the first phase of the seawall repair on the south section closer to the cruise ship terminal, which will eventually be raised by 1.5 to two metres.
The city moved another step closer to beginning work on the Fundy Quay development at Common Council this week.
The funding from three levels of government will get the former Coast Guard site ready for a proposed $300- 350-million, multi-use development on the Saint John waterfront.
