Seven UNB Summer Institute Businesses Already Revenue Generators
FREDERICTON – Seven businesses have joined the latest cohort of the Summer Institute, run by University of New Brunswick’s J Herbert Smith Centre for Technology Management and Entrepreneurship (TME).
“We’re very excited with the companies in this cohort,” said centre chair Dr. Dhirendra Shukla in a release. “The program has grown every year, and this is the first year where the entire cohort has products that are earning revenue.”
The Summer Institute is an intensive, globally-recognized accelerator for early-stage startups with community impact in mind. This year, it began April 29 and ends July 18 when the final celebration and demo day will be held.
Now in its sixth year, the Summer Institute will be lead by TME’s new accelerator team, consisting of Managing Director Joe Allen and Operations Coordinator Tanvir Kohli.
“The number of applicant companies has grown every year since inception, and this year, we received over 145 applications, a nearly 50 per cent increase from 2018,” said Allen. “It’s getting harder every year to select a cohort and if this trend continues we may look to run two cohorts a year.”

- Scottage Cheeze (Harvey) by Margaret Scott: Dairy-free vegan cheeses dips and spreads.
- JW Couture (Fredericton) by Jaclyn Wilson: Men’s and women’s bodybuilding competition suits.
