Saint John’s Gray Jay Greens Now On Shelves
SAINT JOHN – Saint John’s Gray Jay Greens is finally harvesting– and now you can have some.
After operations began late last year, the company is now starting to bring its greens to market.
“Right now we are doing two different lettuce mixes, basil, arugula, and six or seven types of micro greens, depending on the week,” said Gray Jay Greens founder Neville Crabbe. “In the next few weeks the company is launching new labels for our lettuce and micro green mixes. This is another goal, to make the product stand out and be able to tell people it’s local, and grown without pesticides or herbicides.”
Right now your can pick up Gray Jay products at Saint John’s Real Food Connections, Rothesay’s Cochran’s Country Market and Hampton’s Kredl’s Corner Market. Since hitting shelves, Crabbe says feedback has been positive and encouraging.
“When you start any business you take a leap. Is there really a market? Can I actually produce the product? Thankfully the answer so far is yes,” he said. “Now it’s a hard up-hill push to really make this work.”
With the company now harvesting regularly, Crabbe says growth is going to be Gray Jay’s main focus. It’s vital.
“I believe I’ve been the beneficiary of goodwill in the market, and I’m deeply thankful for that. I hope people will continue to support homegrown business because it makes our city and our province strong,” he said.
