Ryan Adams’ 1989 Cover Album
As a member of the multi-talented communications and event planning collective This Is Duke, Kay Gillis has been sought after by clients from across the region for her industry savvy, good taste and a great sense of humor to boot.
We asked her to share with us something that she’s been loving lately.
I know that there are many more important things to love, but I am loving this Ryan Adams cover album of Taylor Swift’s 1989 album. I like it mostly because it takes an already stellar album and changes it into something else very interesting.
Doing a cover version of an insanely popular song is not easy. Doing that 13 times is incredible. I think it’s amazing how he was able to take the songs from Swift’s 1989 album and change it to make it reflect how the album made him feel.
I have zero musical talents, other than to consume it – so I have a lot of admiration for people who do it well.
My favorite song from the Ryan Adams version is a tie between How You Get The Girl, Blank Space and I Know Places.
He’s taken someone else’s angsty breakup record and totally made it his own. Ryan Adams is real people!
