Remembering the Saint John Transit Jingle
On Tuesday, Saint John Transit announced that it’s getting some brand spank’n new buses for its fleet.
Though it’s great to see the city’s public transportation system taking steps for its future, we couldn’t help but yearn for something from Saint John Transit’s past…
It’s the old, catchy as hell, jingle.
If you were alive and listening to local radio in Saint John in the early 2000’s (mid-90’s? It all blends together now) you definitely heard the Saint John Transit jingle hundreds of times. You maybe even had it stuck in your head for days on end:
“I’ve got a limo that’s 40 feet long
I got a chauffeur who won’t steer me wrong
Commuting is better than it ever was
I’m taking it easy when I take the bus!”
Then it disappeared from the airwaves. Gone from our lives forever.
But then YouTube happened.
A user named ECHO64 uploaded the audio file of the jingle to the site in 2011 so a new generation could enjoy this pure mastery of catchy advertising.
Yeah, it’s corny. But we think there is a huge opportunity for Saint John Transit to cash in on the nostalgia factor here. Maybe put out a new hip-hop version? Or maybe a quirky cover by a local folk musician?
Or they could keep it the way it is because it’s damn beautiful.
Either way, you’re welcome for the trip down memory lane.
