A New Home for Contemporary Art in Fredericton
FREDERICTON–Downtown Fredericton will soon have a new spot to get its fine art fix.
Run by local business owner and art connoisseur Nadia Khoury, Gallery on Queen will be a destination for art lovers looking for contemporary art from across Canada. Khoury encourages anyone to come into the space and check out works of diverse styles and genres. The gallery will also showcase works from Khoury’s husband Michael Khoury and her daughter Chantal Khoury.
“My main concern would be for people to come in of all ages, children, teenagers, older, any age come in and really look at excellent art and take their time and enjoy what we have,” Khoury said.
Khoury says she was inspired to open her own gallery after years of dealing art, working in business and being involved with the Beaverbrook Art Gallery on a volunteer basis.
“I’ve always dealt with arts and frequented art galleries and educated myself more about art,” she said. “I know the arts scene in New Brunswick very well … I’m extremely happy with the location. It is just in the heart of downtown Fredericton.”
Khoury feels her gallery will fill a space in Fredericton for current, modern work and that she can bring attention to artists both locally and nationally.
“It’s a place where you can just open the door and come in and look at the work,” she said. “I think it’s a great addition to the art scene in New Brunswick because if you really look, there’s not that many galleries that are professional, that are out there to show the work and ready to go.”
An official opening of Gallery on Queen will take place May 28 at 4 p.m. and will consist of wine and cheese reception with a few words from Mayor Mike O’Brien.
