NBIF’s “Breakthru” Startup Competition Goes National
FREDERICTON–The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF), along with Cox & Palmer and Deloitte, launched the sixth edition of its Breakthru Startup Competition today.
This edition marks the highest prize pot ever as entrepreneurs compete for $1,000,000 in cash and professional services. It is also the first year the competition will be open to non-New brunswick residents, with a national category that will allow participants to compete for $200,000 in venture capital and over $50,000 in professional services.
“Imagine, one day you’re dreaming about being an entrepreneur and owning your own company and the next day it’s a reality,” NBIF chair Cathy Simpson said in a release. “This is what’s going to happen for three hardworking Breakthru participants. Starting a new company is a risky adventure and to take the leap into entrepreneurship, people need to know that turning their ideas into a business is a real possibility. Breakthru does exactly that.”
Breakthru aims to bring people, ideas and money together to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. Applications must be received by November 15 and winners will be announced at Breakthru LIVE 2017 on March 23, 2017. Winners of the national prize will be required to move to New Brunswick to start up their company.
