NBIF Calls On Student Researchers To Submit Videos For R3 Pitch Competition
FREDERICTON – The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF) is calling on post-secondary students around the province to submit research ideas they want to pitch in front of attendees at the organization’s biennial R3 forum.
Video applications are now open for R3 2020’s Research Student Pitch Competition. The deadline to apply is February 21.
A judging panel will sort through the submitted videos and pick 10 finalists, who will then describe their research in layman’s terms to attendees at the event in only three minutes. The list of finalists will be announced on March 20.
Students who have completed at least one full year of post-secondary education at St. Thomas University, University of New Brunswick, NBCC, CCNB, Mount Allison University, Universite de Moncton, and Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick are eligible to compete.
The winner of the live pitch at the R3 Gala on April 2 will get a $2,000 cash prize, while the first and second runner ups will win $1,000 and $500, respectively. The winner of the best video from all submissions will also get a $1,000 cash prize.
The pitches will be evaluated based on six criteria, including whether or now the research is original, relevant and potentially impactful to society and to New Brunswick.
R3 is a biennial forum hosted by NBIF that gathers academic researchers, graduate students, government agencies and industry representatives interested in research and development in one place. The 2020 event is themed Talent Development in the Innovation Economy and will take place at the Fredericton Convention Centre.
