FREDERICTON – A faulty valve at NB Power’s Mactaquac Generating Station dumped over 3,ooo liters of lubricating oil into the St. John River.
The release occurred on Dec. 22. Some of the oil was contained on the site and collected the same day while what NB Power says is an “undetermined amount” is being recovered from the river by an outside cleanup contractor.
In a statement, NB Power says the oil spilled has a “low ecotoxicity” and is “not expected to be harmful to aquatic organisms.”
