More Than 50 Companies Need To Fill 450 jobs In Saint John
SAINT JOHN – More than 50 employers with more than 450 job vacancies will part of a job fair that’s open to the public Thursday afternoon at the Marco Polo cruise terminal in Saint John.
The “Connect & Settle” hiring fair is open to local residents, including newcomers and international students, who can meet and connect with various employers and learn about the career opportunities available in Saint John.
The hiring fair, which is taking place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., is an opportunity for employers and job-seekers to connect in-person, so employers can talk about their vacancies and job-hunters can showcase their skill sets and experience.
The companies at the fair will have job vacancies in a variety of sectors, such as sales, food and hospitality, IT, engineering, education, finance, health care and manufacturing.
“[It will be] a hiring fair but it is also a networking opportunity,” said Theresa Phillips of Opportunities New Brunswick in a release. “Studies show up to 60 percent of all jobs are found through networking rather than traditional job searching.”
Many organizations and government departments are teaming up to address the labour force shortage, and connect interested, skilled people to the right jobs and employers.
The job fair was organized by Post-Secondary Education Training and Labour, Opportunities New Brunswick, Economic Development Greater Saint John, City of Saint John and the Saint John Local Immigration Partnership.
To support job-seekers, pre-hiring fair workshops that teach things like writing a resume and preparing a pitch are being offered by the Saint John Newcomers Centre, YMCA of Greater Saint John, Atlantic Human Services (AHS), and the WorkRoom.
