Locavore Is Closing Its Food-Service Operations Before Christmas
FREDERICTON – Locavore Foods is closing its food service operations before Christmas, the company said in a release Thursday.
In place of those activities, the company says it will become a “food-focused hub” for other entrepreneurs in the community.
“We are fazing out our own production activities and beginning our transition to a food-focused hub or ‘Food Makerspace’ where many local food entrepreneurs and projects can share licensed facilities, learnings and resources,” it said in a release. “While many details are yet being developed over the coming weeks we do know that current food services including our e-commerce, wholesale, and catering activities will come to an end as of December 22nd.”
The release stated that the company, which was formed after the demise of Real Food Connections, had built good relationships that would allow for a successful transition into other activities.
“In the past year, Locavore Foods has had the opportunity to build many local food connections with great businesses and customers alike. We have evolved and changed our business model multiple times as challenges and opportunities presented themselves,” said the release.
“For the new chapter of our evolution, we are excited to be already working with existing organisations and actively looking for any other potential collaborators.”
Levi Lawrence, the former owner of Real Food Connections who worked with Locavore for the last year, said the hub was a good idea.
“The company is going to try to keep the kitchen as a shared hub for a variety of small food businesses which is a MUCH needed resource in our community and for the local food industry,” he wrote in a note on his Facebook page.
However, Lawrence said he won’t be part of the team that takes the company in a new direction.
“I will personally not be continuing with that project and after a bit of a much needed break I will be looking for new opportunities and challenges,” he said.
