Huddle Enters Into Strategic Partnership With Acadia Broadcasting
Huddle.Today announced Wednesday it has entered into a strategic partnership with Acadia Broadcasting Limited, a Saint John, New Brunswick-based broadcaster which owns and operates 15 radio stations across the Maritimes and Ontario. Under the partnership, both companies will explore content sharing opportunities to provide local news to the Maritimes.
“Acadia Broadcasting has always made local news coverage a priority. They are a big part of the communities they serve, and, like Huddle, provide news outside a paywall. Given their extensive reach throughout the Maritimes and their focus on local news they are a logical strategic partner for Huddle,” said Allan Gates, who founded Huddle in late 2015 with his business partner Lise Hansen. “We look forward to exploring ways to work together with their editorial team to provide local news to the Maritimes across a number of channels.”
Acadia Broadcasting owns radio stations in Saint John, Moncton and St. Stephen, New Brunswick as well as in Bridgewater, Yarmouth and Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, in addition to stations in Thunder Bay, Dryden, Kenora and Fort Frances, Ontario.
“The media environment continues to evolve quickly, and Acadia Broadcasting is taking steps to expand our reach. Huddle has carved out a strong niche in the Maritimes and we see its approach as complementary to our own newsgathering,” said Chris Pearson, president of Acadia Broadcasting Limited.
“Our radio stations have always shared news freely on their websites without a paywall. There are clear synergies that can be explored with Huddle,” added Pearson.
