Gallant Attending UN Conference on Climate Change
FREDERICTON – Premier Brian Gallant will be part of the Canadian delegation attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris.
There are 151 national representatives attending the two-week conference with the aim of completing a binding framework for post-2020 emissions reductions.
“Playing our part in combatting climate change is the right thing to do, and it is also important for our economy,” said Gallant.
Recently, the province announced it will be working on its Climate Change Action Plan to provide a road map of “concrete actions” to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help New Brunswick become “more resilient” to climate change through “adaptation efforts.”
While in Paris, Gallant will deliver a speech to the France-Canada Chamber of Commerce on the opportunities that exist for New Brunswick and the European Union regarding trade and economic growth.
“We need to develop our natural resources and energy projects in a responsible way, which is also a way to encourage the international community to buy our products,” said Gallant.
Albert MLA Brian Keirstead and Fredericton South MLA David Coon will also participate in the conference as members of the New Brunswick delegation.
