Dieppe Continues To Focus On Developing Its Downtown
DIEPPE – The City of Dieppe continued to focus on developing its downtown in 2019, with the core area around Place 1604 and the Dieppe Market bustling with activity.
Mayor Yvon Lapierre says the downtown hosted major events such as the Acadian World Congress and National Acadian Day and added infrastructure to accommodate further growth.
“We had a number of programs [this year]. In terms of construction, we’ve seen additional apartment buildings coming up,” he said.
Lapierre says a dedicated pedestrian area was created on Gauvin Road between Marche Street and Acadie Avenue which was closed to traffic from Canada Day to Labour Day
Called the Connexion Zone, he says the area proved to be popular during the summer with games and activities for families.
The activity isn’t just confined to the summer months. In winter, the skating oval continues to be a big draw.
Lapierre adds the refrigeration system works well during changing weather conditions and the oval attracts skaters at all times of the day.
