Cooke Teams Up With Martha Stewart On Seafood Line
SAINT JOHN – When Martha Stewart – yes, the Martha Stewart – asked to visit the Atlantic Salmon Farm of Cooke’s True North Seafood near her home in Maine in 2016, a partnership bloomed.
“After touring our operations, Martha served True North Seafood products at events at her home in Maine and the Martha Stewart American Made Summit in NYC,” said Joel Richardson, the VP of Public Relations for Cooke Inc., in an e-mail to Huddle.
“We took her on a tour of our operations and in 2018, we launched our first product with Martha on QVC. After the success on QVC, True North Seafood and Martha and her team began to develop the retail line.”
True North Seafood has now teamed up with Sequential Brands Group, which represents the Martha Stewart brand, to develop a seafood product line with the American celebrity.
The Martha Stewart for True North Seafood line offers True North Seafood products that each comes with a Martha Stewart signature butter flavour or spice blend. The packaging will also include easy-to-follow recipes created by Martha’s Test Kitchen.
“Knowing where my seafood comes from is very important to me, and I’ve enjoyed and served True North Seafood to family and friends for years,” Stewart said in a release.
“After visiting True North’s salmon farms near my Skylands home in Maine, I saw first-hand their innovative and industry leading methods of sustainable farming and fishing. Their passion for the environment and community is why they are one of North America’s largest and most trusted producers of fresh farmed and wild-caught seafood from the Gulf of Alaska to the Atlantic,” she said.
The line includes Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter, Sockeye Salmon with Miso Butter, Wild Alaska Pollock with Southwest Spice Blend, and a Seafood Medley (Wild Alaska Pollock, Atlantic Salmon, and Bay Scallops) with Herb Spice Blend.
“This line is all about convenience and quality product,” said Andrew Young, True North Seafood’s VP President of Global Sales and Marketing, in the release. “It is a perfect option for existing seafood customers while encouraging new customers who may not be as comfortable buying or preparing seafood to shop the category.”
Glenn Cooke, the CEO of Saint John-based Cooke Inc., said in the release that the easy recipes will help customers.
“We are thrilled to be launching this new product line in partnership with the Martha Stewart team,” he said. “It is great for us to be able to work with Martha’s team to bring delicious, well-thought-out meals to all tables, even those who have busy schedules and minimal prep time.”
The product line will be showcased at the Seafood Expo North America in Boston in March and become available at U.S. grocery retailers in May.
