Cleve’s Opens its New Saint John Location at East Point Shopping Centre
SAINT JOHN – Cleve’s Source for Sports has opened its new store in East Point Shopping Centre, and added six new employees to help staff the larger 11,000-square-foot store.
“We have 17 full-line stores in the region, and one seasonal operation, but we knew it was time to update our Saint John store. The East Point location will give our customers a much better shopping experience in a more modern and fashionable location,” said company president Kevin Bezanson in a release.
The store, which first opened in Saint John 15 years ago, now employs 10 full-time and 15 part-time workers.
The first Cleve’s sporting goods store was opened in Halifax in 1947 by founder Bernie Cleveland. The company was purchased in 1968 by Eric Bezanson, who is still its Chief Executive Officer. Bezanson expanded the business rapidly in the 1970s spurred by Canada’s ParticipACTION movement and the accompanying personal fitness boom.
