Cannabis NB Records Nearly $1-Million In Sales In 48 Hours
FREDERICTON – In the first two days after recreational cannabis consumption was legalized, Cannabis NB stores across the province sold about $950,000 worth of products, president and CEO Brian Harriman said in a statement released Wednesday.
Online sales totalled $71,083 with the majority of purchases taking place in stores across the province ($872,758), where people could be served by trained staff.
“This is new for all provinces across the country,” said Harriman. “Overall, I am very pleased with how things have rolled out as we enter a new legalized channel of retail. The sales of the first 48 hours were, overall, what we expected.
“I am also very proud of our retail teams across the province. The feedback we have received from customers has been very positive as our guides have delivered a positive educational customer experience.”
The Fredericton and Oromocto stores led the way in sales with $172,975 over the two day period. Saint John and Rothesay were next at $148,197 with Moncton and Dieppe close behind at $145,547.
Due to “last-minute” logistical issues and other issues encountered by licensed producers, stores across the province did not receive their full shipments of products. While there will be shortages of some products as a result and especially busy stores near borders with other provinces, Harriman does not anticipate any store closures in the near term.
“Retail stores in communities bordering other provinces, such as Sackville and Campbellton, have seen higher-than-expected demand because of customers coming from other provinces,” he said. “Cannabis NB will continue to closely monitor inventory throughout our stores and work with suppliers to get inventory to normal levels.”
