‘Cake On A Stick’ And Other Tasty Desserts At New Fredericton Market Stall
FREDERICTON — Dipped Dessertery has found a home base at the Boyce Farmer’s Market.
Emma Greer and Emily Rioux are the owners of Dipped. Their stand sells chocolate-covered strawberries, pretzels, Oreos, brownie bites and cakesicles, which are pieces of cake on a stick. They started by selling boxes online and opening at the market gave them the opportunity to offer individual treats.
“[Customers] can come by and get a pretzel or an oreo or whatever they are interested in having that day,” said Rioux. “Which makes a great little treat when you’re walking around but also it’s a sampling opportunity.”
On their first day at the market, they sold out. Rioux said it was cool to see customers posting stuff they had bought on their Instagram stories.
“We had one customer come by around the end of the day,” said Rioux. “She had rushed to the market before they closed because she had seen her friends posted the cakesicles… so she had to rush down and get her own.”
When not at the market, Greer and Rioux are part of a management team at one of the Fredericton Dooly’s.
“We obviously work well together and then we decided to start a little side hustle,” said Rioux.
Rioux is not a self-proclaimed baker but comes in for the decoration and design side of the business. Greer, on the other hand, loves baking and had the idea to start a dessert stand in the first place.
“We wanted to create something that was a more luxurious option,” said Rioux. “Instead of your basic sheet cake for a birthday party, you could get a box that has all of your favourite treats decked out to the nines.”
Their first orders were for Valentine’s Day. After the holiday was over, they kept on getting orders. Rioux said they were surprised but happy.
Their most popular box now is the luxury box. It is good for first-time orders because it has a little bit of everything. Rioux said it also makes a great gift. To add a personal touch, you can choose a theme for a box.
“We’ve done Star Wars theme quite a few times now, or a specific colour scheme that they have,” said Rioux. “We are able to accommodate any kind of request like that.”
Dipped will have a different theme every Saturday. For those looking for a neutral box, Dipped will still offer boxes of both milk and dark chocolate.
Rioux said they just launched a website where customers can preorder to pick up a box at their stand on Saturday. She said they will stay at the market as long as they will have them.
“We’re still so new,” said Rioux. “So we’re just exploring and trying to figure out what to do next.”
