Big Deal Market Closes Riverview Store Four Months After It First Opened
RIVERVIEW – Big Deal Market, a bulk food and produce store from Bathurst, has closed its location at the Fundy Chocolate River Station in Riverview on October 26, it said in a Facebook post. The store only opened at the end of June.
“Hello everyone, we want [to] send out a big thank you to all the amazing people who have supported Big Deal Market in Riverview over the past several months,” the post said.
“Unfortunately, things did not work out at this location, and we are heartbroken to announce that Big Deal Market Riverview is closed for business as of today. Thank you.”
Big Deal Market has operated in Bathurst for 40 years. The store that closed was its second and only other location.
The location is Bathurst remains open as usual, a representative of the store said in a message to Huddle.
When the Riverview location opened, owner Wayne Hachey said to Huddle the Bathurst store continues to operate with three staff members.
The Riverview store took up the space where Unplugged Board Games Cafe used to be. It carried various fruits and vegetables, spices, candies, flours, beans and other baking goods.
“We’re different than a bulk barn because our bulk stuff is all pre-packaged, so there’s no cross contamination that way,” Hachey said in June. “And we have a lot of gluten-free flours, coconut flours, almond flours. We carry a lot of extracts, raisins, nuts. It’s a fine place if you want to find something to bake with.”
