Area 506 Shipping Container Village Begins Taking Shape
SAINT JOHN – The Port City’s Long Wharf is set to be transformed beginning this Saturday, July 23 as the installation of the Area 506 Festival Shipping Container Village begins. Construction is set to take about a week.
“The creation of the shipping container village is a feat of engineering and community partnership,” says Ray Gracewood, chair of Area 506.
The music and cultural festival takes place from July 29 to 31.
The Container Village will host cultural groups and New Brunswick brands as well as food trucks, a beer garden and the concert tent.
Organizers say the village will be free to the public from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31.
“It’s incredible the amount of time and resources our partners are investing to move and install these containers,” says Gracewood. “We’re talking everything from site drawings and security, to shipping companies offering us their containers, towing and moving companies, crane operators, electrical and electricians – the list go on and on.”
Saturday’s New Brunswick showcase includes Matt Andersen & the Bona Fide, 1755, Chris Colepaugh & the Cosmic Crew, The Backyard Devils and the Art of the Possible.
Sunday’s line-up includes headliner Grace Potter and supporting acts Big Sugar, July Talk, Wintersleep and Vogue Dots.
