‘What ya making?’: A Picture Gallery of the Downtown Centre Under Construction
MONCTON – The City of Moncton posted a series of pictures on Facebook of the work being done at the Downtown Centre, and answered questions from residents on how things are progressing.
We assembled a gallery of pics and questions and comments from Facebook users.
Mike Breecher wanted to know the significance of the multi-coloured seats.
“There are approximately 8,500 fixed seats for sporting or cultural events and an additional 1,500 non-fixed seats for concerts,” replied a city official. “We will have the exact number of seats once they are all installed.”
Dave King wanted to know where people are going to park? “As a season ticket holder to the Moncton Magic, it’s a concern of mine,” he wrote.
“The specific locations for parking will be rolled-out early in the new year,” replied the city official.
Ben Clements wrote, “Seems weird the city didn’t think to build more corporate boxes inside.”
“There are 16 suites, including two party suites in the facility,” said the city official.
The centre has been under construction for a year and received ongoing media attention, but Gregory Mclean still had a fundamental question about the project: “What ya making?”
“It is the new multi-use sports and entertainment facility,” the city official kindly informed him.
In a construction update, the city says the $104-million facility is on budget and still scheduled to open in September of next year.
