Who Will Play Magnetic Hill in 2017?
Spring is here and it’s time for New Brunswickers to once again start speculating if there will be a concert at Magnetic Hill this summer or not.
With nothing but crickets from the Hill last summer, many were disappointed that there was no mega concert. The last one was AC/DC in 2015.
We also got crickets from the city of Moncton when we reached out to see if there were any plans in the works for a show this year. The city’s department of economic development and events didn’t respond to our request for comment.
But, much like last year, this isn’t stopping us at Huddle from throwing around some ideas for possible acts that could pay a visit to Moncton.
So, once again, here are some of the acts touring North America that could make a stop in Hub City:
Billy Joel
The Piano Man will actually be in New England in August…so what’s stopping him from coming up north of the border for a night to sing us a song?
Blake Shelton
The country singer, TV personality and Gwen Stefani +1 would definitely draw a crowd in New Brunswick. Fun fact: he’ll actually be playing Calgary, Alberta on August 20 with over a week until his next stop in Kentucky on September 3. That’s plenty of time to pay the Maritimes a visit.
Gun N’ Roses
These guys were on our list last year, but with (most) of the original lineup back together, a show like this is a huge deal. The band will be touring Canada this summer with some free days in between shows. A big crowd would likely welcome GNR to the jungle, er, Magnetic Hill.
Paul McCartney
The most famous living Beatle (sorry, Ringo) has played the Maritimes before, with a show in Halifax in 2009, so this isn’t entirely out of the question. McCartney has a huge break in August from his U.S. Tour. Who says he can’t get a ticket to ride into New Brunswick?
Iron Maiden
No doubt they would be the most metal band to ever play the Hill, but there’s no denying that they can draw a crowd. The band will be playing through the United States all summer with no dates set yet for August.
Rush
Again, another group who isn’t unfamiliar with the Maritimes. Canadian rock stalwarts Rush played Halifax back in 2013. They’re not currently on tour, but wouldn’t it be cool? Come to New Brunswick, boys. We’ll show you a good time.
The Rolling Stones
The grandfathers of rock are Magnetic Hill veterans, so this is a possibility. However, their website says they’re not on the road right now. We think it’s time to get them back once more before one of them dies (it won’t be Keith Richards).
