A New Brunswick arts advocacy group is calling for just over $12-million in support for the province’s pandemic-slammed arts, culture, and heritage sectors.
The report comes after seven years of work involving numerous government departments and members of the arts community.
The Symphony New Brunswick Foundation, founded in 1993, plays a critical role in maintaining and growing the diverse range of symphony programing.

Mel Pitre did not anticipate she would drastically shift gears in 2020, from performing in her ensemble, “The Southern Comfort Band” to driving across the province as part of a growing photography business.
Due to Covid-19, this year’s festival will be virtual, with some shows also taking place in outdoor spaces in the Saint John area where physical distancing can be ensured.
More help is also on the way for workers in an array of sectors, from oil and gas to arts, culture and sports.
The “NB At Home” program, sponsored by Music NB and the province, will support New Brunswick artists who have found themselves out of work due to COVID-19.
A sector that has greater impact than high-profile ones like agriculture, manufacturing and IT needs to be better supported by the government, says a provincial cultural advocacy organization.
