Seven New Entrepreneurial Ventures Launch through TME Summer Institute
FREDERICTON–Seven new entrepreneurial ventures were launched last week through University of New Brunswick’s J. Herbert Smith Centre for Technology Management and Entrepreneurship (TME).
The Summer Institute is a three month business accelerator program that aims to guide entrepreneurs through the process of turning their ideas into viable business ventures. The Summer Institute just finished up its third year of operation, which ran from May 2 to July 22.
“Seven businesses participated in the program this year that ranged from the highly technical to the highly creative,” Summer Institute Program Coordinator Melissa O’Rourke said in a release. “There was everything from beautiful boiled wool puppets to a group that uses drone technology in life saving efforts.”
“We believe these ventures will make an impact within the province and beyond. Keep an eye out for these names in the coming months. We expect you’ll be hearing more from them.”
On July 22 the entrepreneurs opened for business at an event held at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre. This year’s entrepreneurs and businesses were Courtney Johnson (Ashes to Ashes); Laura Cushnie (La Dulse Vie); Alex Jamael (Fox & Foal); Sylvette Fortin (Petite Forêt); Scott Allen, Joshua White and Thomas Bird (CanCross); Jordan Kennie, Daniel Larsen and Erik Hatfield (Stash Energy Storage); Amir Taheri, Pooya Naderi and Sadegh Tabei (Breeze Bird).
“It was so exciting to showcase the hard work and achievement of our Summer Institute entrepreneurs,” UNB ACOA Chair in Entrepreneurship Dhirendra Shukla said. “This group is at the forefront of innovation in their respective fields. They’re solving problems at a global level right here in New Brunswick.”
