Saint John Businesses to Host Area 506 Kick-Off Street Party
SAINT JOHN– Saint John’s Area 506 festival weekend will be kicking off a day early this year.
On Friday, Aug 4, several businesses in uptown Saint John will be hosting the E2L JAM – a street party on Grannan Lane.
The event, hosted by Five & Dime, Churchill’s, Port City Royal, and Historica, is open to the public and will provide attendees with the opportunity to buy Area 506 passes. Area 506 pass holders will also be able to pick up their bracelets for the weekend festival.
“We wanted to find a way to kick off Area 506 with the Uptown business community, and the Grannan Lane crew were engaged with the idea from the start,” said Ray Gracewood, chair of the Area 506 committee, in a release. “It’s a great way to give our pass holders a chance to skip the line and get their bracelets early, and enjoy a sneak peek at some of the acts we’ll be featuring over the weekend on the Canada 150 stage.”
The street party will see the portion of Grannan Lane between Germain Street and Canterbury Street shut down, with a stage and live performances running from 7:00 p.m. through until midnight. Performances will feature acts from the Area 506 Canada 150 stage, but details will be kept under wraps until the show starts.
“We’ve seen a lot of bars, restaurants and entertainment destinations open up in this area in the past couple of years,” said Jody Kliffer, co-owner of Five & Dime. “We’ve also seen significant events such as Area 506, Third Shift and Quality Block Party transform the entertainment landscape here in the city. We’re all excited for what that means for Uptown and we’re happy to bring some of that excitement to our area.”
That section of Grannan Lane will be closed starting at 5:00 p.m. on Aug 4, and will be licensed for the duration of the event.
