Podcast: 35 Episodes Of Insights From Atlantic Canadian Business Leaders
Thirty-five podcasts. That’s roughly 35 hours of conversations with business and thought leaders about Atlantic Canada’s economic success stories, and the challenges and opportunities the region faces.
On this episode of the “Insights” podcast, Don Mills and David Campbell chat with Huddle editor Mark Leger about the people they’ve spoken to (a group that includes former Newfoundland finance minister Cathy Bennett, JDI co-CEO Jim Irving, and Frank McKenna) and the issues they’ve discussed (from labour force development to immigration to energy development and innovation).
Campbell says the hour-long conversations with people like Irving and Oxford Frozen Foods CEO John Bragg, on issues like worker recruitment and retention, were especially enlightening.
“This is what I like about business leaders,” says Campbell. “They have deployed capital and they can’t fool around. They need to find the workers they need at competitive wages, so these kinds of conversations are top of mind for them.”

The “Insights” podcast combines the experiences of an economist, David Campbell, and a social scientist, Don Mills, to explore the challenges and opportunities facing Atlantic Canada, to promote data-driven decision-making among policymakers, and to encourage a wider dialogue and debate leading to greater prosperity for the region.
