New Brunswick Small Businesses Call For Lower Taxes
MONCTON–In advance of the upcoming provincial government budget, the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses says that a survey of its members in New Brunswick returned a clear call for lower taxes.
The organization, which has 5000 members in the province, says over the last two years business owners in New Brunswick have faced higher property taxes, higher gas and diesel taxes, increases to the land transfer tax, personal income tax increases, minimum wage increases and the HST hiked to 15 per cent.
Coming next is higher workers’ compensation premiums, higher employment insurance rates, higher CPP premiums, and a looming carbon tax.
“It’s no surprise that 78 per cent of entrepreneurs say the provincial government has been ineffective in addressing the provincial portion of the total tax burden,” said Louis-Philippe Gauthier, director of provincial affairs in a release.
“New Brunswick small businesses are clear in their message, reducing the total tax burden is the most important action government can take to help support small business and entrepreneurship.”
