New Brunswick Sees Drop in Unemployment in July
The unemployment rate in New Brunswick took a big dip last month, according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada.
New Brunswick unemployment went down to 6.5 per cent in July, from 8.1 in June.
However, the province’s labour force in July was 377, 100, down from 383, 200 in June. The workforce participation rate in July also went down to 60.4 per cent, from 61.4 per cent in June.
Statistics Canada also released seasonally adjusted, three-month moving average unemployment rates for major cities. In Moncton, unemployment went down to 5.2 per cent in July from 5.4 per cent in June. In Saint John, unemployment was down slightly from 6.3 per cent in June 5o 6.2 per cent in July.
Nationally, the unemployment rate was down to 6.3 per cent in July, from 6.5 per cent in June.
Though the numbers are positive, Statistics Canada says these figures are based on small statistical samples and may fluctuate widely.
