Moncton’s Mobile Farmers’ Market Returns for Second Season
MONCTON – The Farmers’ Truck, Greater Moncton’s first mobile farmers’ market is hitting the road again this week, but this time with some new additions.
This year the Farmers’ Truck will feature faster transaction times and a zero waste initiative. The company is also launching an online store, which will be up later this month.
“The online store is an extension of the truck. In our climate, we can’t operate the truck during winter months so we had to figure a way to make the franchisees revenue during off season months. Also, some cities doesn’t allow mobile vendors to operate, so the online store would be the only way to work there,” said co-founder and CEO Fred Laforge. “The model stays the same, 100 per cent local products curated from 160 km radius from the point of operation. We want people to remember, when you see the truck or buy from the store online, it is 100 per cent local.”
The business is also adding a new truck to the fleet in July. The new truck will display 2.5x more produce and will offer a refrigerated display to showcase the new selection of local meat and local dairy products. Laforge said it was a project that their teams had been working hard on all winter.
“The first truck was a proof of concept if you will, a bootstrapped minimum viable product,” he said. “The new trucks is what we actually want to take and franchise, so it’s a big deal! The new truck is potentially going to be our flagship product for years to come.”
The truck will be making it’s first stop of the season Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Laundromat Espresso Bar in Moncton.
