LISTEN: Boiling Point Talks Business of Giving with United Way’s Wendy McDermott
It’s no secret that a lot of communities in New Brunswick face some big social challenges.
For those of us who want to help, it’s often difficult to sift through all of our giving opportunities to see where we could make the greatest impact. This challenge can be even more difficult for a non-profit organization funding other non-profits.
Wendy McDermott is the executive director of the United Way in Greater Saint John. When she took her post a few years ago, the United Way was going through some changes to make their charity more impactful. McDermott was instrumental in shaking up the organization to make it more result driven and donation friendly. She did this by requiring organizations seeking United Way funding to take a business approach.
In this week’s episode of Boiling Point, hosts Greg Hemmings and Dave Veale chat with McDermott about how a business approach to giving can help your community.
