Is IKEA Coming to Halifax?
HALIFAX–Is the much loved Swedish furniture retailer finally setting up shop in the Maritimes? A news conference scheduled for later this week points to a very likely YES.
The President of IKEA Canada Stefan Sjostrand will be hosting an announcement with Halifax Mayor Mike Savage on Friday at the city’s St. Mary’s Boat Club.
IKEA is loved for its stylish but often affordable wares, and occasionally loathed for the cryptic instructions that come with its ready-to-assemble furniture. The company operates over 370 stores in 47 countries and reported €29.293 billion in revenue in 2014.
The closest IKEA stores to the Maritimes are in Montreal and Boston, so this is major news for the brand’s cult-like following in the region.
Get out your allen keys and swear jars folks. It’s finally happening.
