Holy Cow: Milk Prices Increasing in NB
FREDERICTON – New Brunswickers will paying a little more for milk starting next month.
Last week the New Brunswick Farm Products Commission announced the price consumers pay for milk will increase by four cents per litre as of Feb. 1. The commission represents producers, processors and consumers and is responsible for setting the price of fluid milk products in New Brunswick.
The commission said the increase was needed because of several factors including the increased cost of production on farms as well as wage increases and packaging. The exchange rate on the U.S. dollar affecting the processing sector also played a role.
The commission says pricing under the School Milk Program will remain unchanged for the current school year. Dairy producers and processors subsidize the program by about $1 million per year.
