Gallant Addresses Chamber of Commerce France-Canada
PARIS – Building on New Brunswick’s longstanding economic relationship with France was the focus of Premier Brian Gallant’s speech to the Chamber of Commerce France-Canada on Monday.
“As the most export-driven province in Canada, international trade is crucial to New Brunswick’s economy,” said Gallant. “France is, in the European Union, the country where New Brunswick exports the most products.”
New Brunswick’s exports to France have grown by about 30 per cent between 2013 and 2014, increasing from $33 million to $43 million.
“France continues to be a crucial trading partner for New Brunswick and there is momentum in front of us,” said Gallant. “With a new trade deal coming between Canada and Europe, it is important for us to build on our economic relationship with countries like France. Capitalizing on these opportunities to grow our exports will help New Brunswick businesses gain access to new markets and increase their sales.”
Today, Gallant will meet with ambassadors and representatives from francophone countries. He will meet with Michaëlle Jean, secretary general of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie. He will be using these meetings to promote New Brunswick’s bid to host the 2021 Games of La Francophonie.
