The federal government is proposing a legal marijuana tax of at least $1 per gram, plus HST.
The taxes could net the federal and provincial governments $1-billion per year. The plan would add an excise tax of $1 per gram, or 10 percent of the final price, whichever is higher. The cash would be divided equally between Ottawa and the provinces. The final price paid would be different depending on provincial sales tax. The taxes would apply to fresh and dried marijuana, oils and seeds.
